More Dome Details

Far removed from the highway and the rest of the world, Star Garden offers an exceptional view of the Milky Way Galaxy you won't find anywhere else. Secluded among the Pinyon and Pine trees in the high desert is this beautiful and luxurious geodesic dome. Star Garden is located about 2.5 miles off highway 64 down a dirt road and about 20 minutes from the entrance of The Grand Canyon South Rim. The dome sleeps two people comfortably on a queen bed. There is a mini-fridge for you to store food. We are completely off the grid-- and while there is an electric kettle and a small oven, for heating food, there is no kitchen and you should expect minimal food cooking abilities. Please do not come expecting to use electric heaters, hair dryers, or make extravagant meals as our solar set up and space constrictions cannot handle that much power draw. If you are using a heating device (kettle) do not simultaneously turn on the oven. Wait for one to finish before using the other. On sunny/hot summer days the dome can get as hot as 85°f. Most guests use this time to explore the Grand Canyon or take a trip to town. At night it does get cold here in the desert. We have a phenomenal easy to operate propane heater but we recommend bringing warmer clothes October-March as it will be cold outside.

Guest Access

We recommend a standard size sedan with moderate clearance. Though, the best vehicles are an all wheel drive or four wheel drive vehicle. Especially during the monsoon season (late June through September) and after a heavy snow. The road is full of potholes and in bad weather, those holes become puddles. If you see a puddle, drive around it on the higher ground. Don't drive through it; they could be deeper than you think!

Star Garden

Star Garden is located on a secluded and rural area of the Grand Canyon Junction. We are on a 40 acre parcel that is shared with three other rentals similar to this one. It is great for guests planning group trips, but also spread out enough to provide privacy! It is highly likely that you will hear animals at night, such as coyotes, elk, local cattle, and of course little critters running around on the deck. This is a luxury geodesic dome tent. It is insulated but still a tent. There are 120v outlets. The heating and air conditioning (swamp cooler / water cooled air conditioner) are great off-grid amenities. Please plan for about 20 degrees increase from the heater and about 10 degrees decrease from the A/C. When it is 10 degrees at night, the heater will bring temps up to 30 degrees (this only happens on rare occasions during the winter months but guest should be prepared with warm clothing). We will provide extra blankets. Other things to note Please remember this unit is not a house. It is an off grid set up designed for those who are looking for a secluded camping/stargazing experience and want to do so without forfeiting comfort.

“This dome is off the grid and perfect for the type of person I am. My girlfriend and I hiked two serious days in the Canyon and coming back to this cozy place with hot showers and a fire was fab. The sunset and night sky was brilliant both nights. Thanks!”

“Talk about Stargaze…oh my..we were absolutely mesmerized by the nighttime sky. we had never seen so many stars…and with the see thru top it felt like you were sleeping under the them. had everything we needed and the roads getting to the site were its own adventure especially after it rained. would not hesitate to spend another night there..something we will always remember..not a place to just sleep but an adventure”

“Until recently, the prevailing view assumed lorem ipsum was born as a nonsense text. “It’s not Latin, though it looks like it, and it actually says nothing,” Before & After magazine answered a curious reader, “Its ‘words’ loosely approximate the frequency with which letters occur in English, which is why at a glance it looks pretty real”
